I'm opening this issue because:

  • I'll report a bug

Example site where it happens consistently: https://ziglang.org/

Also happens on github when not logged in or with dark theme, reddit under dark theme

Seems like all examples are dark theme related.

(the extension is disabled in the image but I loaded the page before I disabled it; after the reload it went back to normal)

I get the white rectangle on all GitHub pages (even this one, heh). It always appears in the space that was occupied by the popup command line, so perhaps it has something to do with iframes. I get the following console warnings on github:
Layout was forced before the page was fully loaded. If stylesheets are not yet loaded this may cause a flash of unstyled content. [console.html](moz-extension://4c74cfa4-fb57-4aee-91ab-272138871186/build/console.html)

This site appears to use a scroll-linked positioning effect. This may not work well with asynchronous panning; see https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/performance/scroll-linked_effects.html for further details and to join the discussion on related tools and features!
I am using Firefox Dev Edition v107.0b3 on Linux under swaywm and with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1.

Side note: It doesn't happen to me on Reddit (I use old.reddit.com, though) or https://www.varena.ro/, but it does appear on https://ziglang.org/

Just found that this is a duplicate #1424 of which already has a fix PR #1437 hopefully it gets merged soon. Also there is a workaround described here: #1424 (comment)
