It would be awesome if an item had an array for parts. This would be great for kits and multi item things.

Could an alternative be to attach an RFID tag to each kit item, and convert them as a "media package"? That's what we "typically" do for multi-item material like DVD boxes with multiple DVDs or books with floppy disks or what have you :D

Or do you think about parts that are too small for RFID tags, or where one tag per part is not practical for other reasons? More like a checklist to inspect when the item is returned without actually scanning each part?

It is not allways an good option to tag every part of an kit,
The usecase is arduinokits, some parts are usables, some are tiny and some are larger.

The checklist option is better.

Right, a simple solution that could be used for different cases would be to have a (markdown) note field that pops up on returns (check_in_reminder?) would that work? Should it be for things, items or both?

I think both.
