Current solution

Proposed solution

  1. Nice to have if this can be done easily: remove modal screen and use the item viewer template
Ashley said there weren't any security concerns with people seeing the information on the item viewer so I think we could simplify by removing the modal and using the current partially restricted view. This will make it a more consistent and similar experience for the user.

  2. Update copy according to designs: https://www.figma.com/design/X5CL6uhscEAr6VO1DXk6fd/Restricted-item-indication?node-id=4443-1615&t=bSscdwmlUUUNmZI0-1

So I just checked with Ashley and there's another possible scenario where an item is partially restricted but the physical item isn't in our Collection e.g. https://wellcomecollection.org/works/a2242545

This means the line '...library members can request to view this item in the library" isn't going to be accurate.

I'm assuming this isn't going to be a common scenario so I suggest we tweak the copy. It's a little less clear than what it was originally but saves us from managing multiple variations of copy for what may be a niche scenario.

This image cannot be viewed online.
Wellcome Collection Library members may be able to request to view this item in the library.

@LaurenFBaily @jcateswellcome let me know if the above assumption isn't correct and should speak to the Collections info team.

@dana-saur I think that looks good. There are a reasonable number of codebreakers items but it will be the minority that are restricted so it is certainly an edge case and I think a reasonable assumption.
