Accessing raspberry pi gpio pins

I have been working on a major CNC motion controller project with UGS as the top contender for the sender portion on a raspberry pi 4b.

Is there a clean method of changing the rpi's gpio pins via gcode or custom mcodes or macros driven by gcode within UGS?

Even more, same general question but for reading the state of pins.?

I saw some prior conversation of using the pendant interface via localhost, but I am looking for more direct.
