XY only gui on small screen

I am working on a more streamlined two axis system. Similar in a lot of ways as a laser machine. Ideally, a 7" touch screen is my primary interface. I would like to remove the jog buttons for the Z axis and shave as many other non-essentials as I can.

Before I get too deep into figuring out netbeans, has anyone already done something similar?
