Check if entry exists

Hi,
I would like to ask if there might be any chance to add a possibility to check per command line if there exists a dictionary entry for a given search string.
The reason for this is that I'd like to write a script to replicate Yomichan's behavior, which searches for the longest available entry if you click on a character. A demo can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vU85ramvyo4. The only thing a script can't do however, is to check if an entry exists.
I would totally understand though if it's too complicated.
