Let's save some money and ditch Squarespace doggie treats for our own dogfood 🐶.

Notes from initial import (not necessarily in order of importance/prio):

  • 💪 [FEATURE] No Media management outside Hero Images. This is a big one, and probably the biggest blocker to having content parity with SquareSpace on Convene.
  • 😪 There are (obvious) limitations to the Markdown Gizmo for authoring content
    • No HTML support
    • Therefore horizontal layouts are all but impossible
  • 💪❓ [FEATURE] What about adding an HTML Gizmo?
  • 💪 [FEATURE] There is no way to create a conventional type of "chrome" for webpages with standard design components like:
    • Static Header
      image

    • Static Footer
      image

      • Although a Footer can be emulated with with a last Section but there's no way to make them fullscreen-width
      • This means recreating a gallery with images by Convene impossible.
  • 💪 [FEATURE] A "Gallery Gizmo" could prove useful by providing a grid-style layout with a better design for image/description/caption/meta data/etc.... It could service portfolios, or even a general purpose grid. This would work well, say, for the Moment Park iPhone Apps or Mac Apps listing pages. Perhaps this Gizmo is actually a Table Gizmo (which could be implemented with CSS grid under the hood, rather than html tables).
  • 💪 [FEATURE] Reordering sections!
  • ✨ [STYLE][MINOR] I'm not sure the prose class is best for the Space description. It cuts off on larger screens. There's probably a way to finagle it for larger viewport.

Re: adding header/footers section, it used to be that Convene had a default header, with similar content to the footer. The header would at least show you the name of the Space, and breadcrumbs if you were on a page other than the entrance.

Zee removed the header mostly so that the Marketplace would look "nicer", without that header on top, at the same time when he changed the footer to be orange (Piikup's brand color) instead of purple (Zinc's brand color).

We've talked before about letting users configure a header / footer per space. I can think of at least some basic options:

  • turn header or footer on/off (has to handle the fact that if you remove both header and footer there won't be a way to log out)
  • change the background and text color, so you can "brand" the footer and/or header

Clearly for Moment Park we probably also would want to be able to add "menu options" (although maybe those are just a different form of the "Sections" gizmo?).

I opened a separate issue for headers/footers discussion: #2266
