How Can I Get Banned?

We enforce our Terms of Service (TOS) to maintain a respectful and safe environment for all users. We reserve the right to suspend or ban any MagicChatbox account if users violate our guidelines or if there are indications that the MagicChatbox image is being tarnished. This includes, but is not limited to, the following actions:

  • Spreading hate speech
  • Promoting antisemitism
  • Engaging in bullying or harassment
  • Sharing offensive or inappropriate content
  • Impersonating other users or staff members
  • Attempting to hack or disrupt the service

By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure a positive experience for everyone in the community.

How Do I Know I Got Banned?

There are five ways you might realize you’ve been banned. In each case, the MagicChatbox software will display a pop-up window (not for the 3. option) informing you of the punishment, including the reason and duration (which could be permanent). The window will also provide a link to the Discord server for possible appeals.

  1. Chatbox Disappearance: The most common ban. The chatbox will no longer appear, and the MagicChatbox will stop sending data to the OSC server. A pop-up will inform you that you have been banned and provide contact details for support services.

  2. Integration Display Ban: Moderators often use this method. Your chatbox will display messages such as “This user has been banned from using MagicChatbox Services,” “This user has been muted by an official MCB-Staff member,” or “This user has a mute ban for 00:00:00 Duration.” This typically occurs if you are mute banned by a moderator or if the system automatically bans you for repeated misbehavior, such as impersonating staff. A pop-up will also appear in these cases.

  3. Shadow Ban: This type of ban is used when we do not want you to know you are banned. It allows us to observe your behavior after the ban. We want to see if you contact support claiming a “technical issue” or if you admit your mistake. Shadow bans are rare and can only be issued by a Developer or Administrator.

  4. CND Ban: This ban is included in the source code of MCB. CND bans can uninstall the chatbox via a prompt. This is an emergency measure to protect license guidelines. If you attempt to modify the heart rate feature, the system will detect it on boot up, force uninstall all MagicChatbox data, and block you from using the software again without an “Unlock Token” from an Administrator. CND bans are typically not lifted because they are based on clear breaches of license guidelines.

  5. Fake Ban Message: Although not a real ban, this can cause confusion. Admins can display a fake ban message to scare you. This is a rare achievement you can unlock, saying “An Admin tried to ban you but god didn’t let that slide.” Check the Badges to see what this unlocks.

How Can I Appeal My Ban?

You always have the chance to submit a ban appeal, except in the case of a CND Ban, which cannot be lifted. Here are your options:

  1. Official Discord Server: Create a ticket in the Discord server under the category “Ban Appeal.” Fill out the form that appears and wait for a moderator to respond to your case.

  2. Email Appeal: Send an email to [email protected] or [email protected]. Include your VRC-Name, the honest reason you got banned, and if available, the BAN-ID shown in the pop-up window. Also, explain your situation. The BAN-ID is optional, but all other information is required.

  3. Wait for Time Ban to End: If you have a time-limited ban, you can wait for the timer to expire. Your access to the chatbox will be automatically restored. If you believe you were falsely banned, you can submit an appeal ticket in the Discord, providing proof that the ban was incorrect.
