Search that this request don't already exist before creating it.

Would be fantastic to be able to tap a parent reply that would collapse all replies to that reply. Some posts promote a lot of discussion and become tedious to scroll through just to see the next post reply rather than a reply reply. Replies to replies for some controversial subjects could also be filled with arguing that's not relevant to the original post.

alternatively, different colored lines for each level of reply

I want to second this request. Apollo (the dead iOS client for Reddit) had this feature and I fell in love with it. In long threads with different nested replies, it improves readability more than anything else. Tapping or a swipe gesture would work equally well to collapse a thread, it could be made optional and configurable.

Such functionality could also be combined with colorization of the lines to be able to distinguish between different levels of replies, the two are not mutually exclusive. Apollo also had this (it even let you configure the colors being used) implemented very well.

I would suggest trying Apollo (you have to sideload it, because the app has been discontinued) to see a reference implementation in action. If it’s helpful, I could also try to provide a video that demonstrates this.

Thank you! ❤️

I have implemented this in #2153. The animation is still a bit glitchy, but it should work, so feel free to leave some feedback.
