What's New

  • Smart installer can also update older installations and cleanly uninstall
  • Eliminated the need for a loopback audio driver (installer will clean up older versions)
  • Crossfade renderer now supports randomized transition shaders
  • See the wiki Changelog for full details.

Installation

Installing, updating, and uninstalling is now even easier -- just download the install-4-0-0.exe program and answer a few yes/no questions. Unlike previous releases, this installer is a true stand-alone program, not a script. It will download any other files you need.

If you decide to remove the program, just run it again and it'll offer the option to uninstall. If you are already using v3.1.0, it will upgrade your installation to v4.0.0. (Older versions will be upgraded too, but it can't detect the specific version prior to v3.1.0 so the configuration file will not be updated -- but older configs are fully forward-compatible, you'll just get some defaults for newer settings unless you add the settings yourself.)

If you prefer manual installation, download the manual-setup-4-0-0.zip which contains app and content archives. The wiki Quick Start describes manual installation steps.

Related Programs

  • Remote-control via the original Monkey Droid app still works (click to get the Windows installer, or the Android APK package). This is being rewritten from scratch to support new features. If you need install help, see the previous release notes.
  • TCP relay support (which lets you launch the program remotely) is installed by default. It is not enabled unless you request it during installation. More details are in the monkey-see-monkey-do repository.
  • Previous releases included the eyecandy demo files. Nobody downloaded those, so I'm not planning to package and distribute them any more. If you want them, post an issue and I'll build it and package it up (or perhaps I'll make it part of the default install image).
