Currently kaslr_init() handles a mixture of detecting/announcing whether KASLR is enabled, and randomizing the module region depending on whether KASLR is enabled. To make it easier to rework the module region initialization, split the KASLR initialization into two steps: * kaslr_init() determines whether KASLR should be enabled, and announces this choice, recording this to a new global boolean variable. This is called from setup_arch() just before the existing call to kaslr_requires_kpti() so that this will always provide the expected result. * kaslr_module_init() randomizes the module region when required. This is called as a subsys_initcall, where we previously called kaslr_init(). As a bonus, moving the KASLR reporting earlier makes it easier to spot and permits it to be logged via earlycon, making it easier to debug any issues that could be triggered by KASLR. I haven't personally been able to reproduce the lockdep issue, but the issue does look somewhat legitimate. Specifically, it looks like in regulator_resolve_supply() we are holding a "rdev" lock while calling set_supply() -> create_regulator() which grabs the lock of a _different_ "rdev" (the one for our supply). This is not necessarily safe from a lockdep perspective since there is no documented ordering between these two locks. In reality, we should always be locking a regulator before the supplying regulator, so I don't expect there to be any real deadlocks in practice. However, the regulator framework in general doesn't express this to lockdep. Let's fix the issue by simply grabbing the two locks involved in the same way we grab multiple locks elsewhere in the regulator framework: using the "wound/wait" mechanisms. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2025067 [ Upstream commit 00cbce5 ] hfi1 user SDMA request processing has two bugs that can cause data corruption for user SDMA requests that have multiple payload iovecs where an iovec other than the tail iovec does not run up to the page boundary for the buffer pointed to by that iovec.a Here are the specific bugs: 1. user_sdma_txadd() does not use struct user_sdma_iovec->iov.iov_len. Rather, user_sdma_txadd() will add up to PAGE_SIZE bytes from iovec to the packet, even if some of those bytes are past iovec->iov.iov_len and are thus not intended to be in the packet. 2. user_sdma_txadd() and user_sdma_send_pkts() fail to advance to the next iovec in user_sdma_request->iovs when the current iovec is not PAGE_SIZE and does not contain enough data to complete the packet. The transmitted packet will contain the wrong data from the iovec pages. This has not been an issue with SDMA packets from hfi1 Verbs or PSM2 because they only produce iovecs that end short of PAGE_SIZE as the tail iovec of an SDMA request. Fixing these bugs exposes other bugs with the SDMA pin cache (struct mmu_rb_handler) that get in way of supporting user SDMA requests with multiple payload iovecs whose buffers do not end at PAGE_SIZE. So this commit fixes those issues as well. Here are the mmu_rb_handler bugs that non-PAGE_SIZE-end multi-iovec payload user SDMA requests can hit: 1. Overlapping memory ranges in mmu_rb_handler will result in duplicate pinnings. 2. When extending an existing mmu_rb_handler entry (struct mmu_rb_node), the mmu_rb code (1) removes the existing entry under a lock, (2) releases that lock, pins the new pages, (3) then reacquires the lock to insert the extended mmu_rb_node. If someone else comes in and inserts an overlapping entry between (2) and (3), insert in (3) will fail. The failure path code in this case unpins _all_ pages in either the original mmu_rb_node or the new mmu_rb_node that was inserted between (2) and (3). 3. In hfi1_mmu_rb_remove_unless_exact(), mmu_rb_node->refcount is incremented outside of mmu_rb_handler->lock. As a result, mmu_rb_node could be evicted by another thread that gets mmu_rb_handler->lock and checks mmu_rb_node->refcount before mmu_rb_node->refcount is incremented. 4. Related to #2 above, SDMA request submission failure path does not check mmu_rb_node->refcount before freeing mmu_rb_node object. If there are other SDMA requests in progress whose iovecs have pointers to the now-freed mmu_rb_node(s), those pointers to the now-freed mmu_rb nodes will be dereferenced when those SDMA requests complete. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2028580 [ Upstream commit 45121ad ] The PSP IRQ is edge-triggered (MSI or MSI-X) in all cases supported by the psp module so clear the interrupt status register early in the handler to prevent missed interrupts. sev_irq_handler() calls wake_up() on a wait queue, which can result in a new command being submitted from a different CPU. This then races with the clearing of isr and can result in missed interrupts. A missed interrupt results in a command waiting until it times out, which results in the psp being declared dead. This is unlikely on bare metal, but has been observed when running virtualized. In the cases where this is observed, sev->cmdresp_reg has PSP_CMDRESP_RESP set which indicates that the command was processed correctly but no interrupt was asserted. The full sequence of events looks like this: CPU 1: submits SEV cmd #1 CPU 1: calls wait_event_timeout() CPU 0: enters psp_irq_handler() CPU 0: calls sev_handler()->wake_up() CPU 1: wakes up; finishes processing cmd #1 CPU 1: submits SEV cmd #2 CPU 1: calls wait_event_timeout() PSP: finishes processing cmd #2; interrupt status is still set; no interrupt CPU 0: clears intsts CPU 0: exits psp_irq_handler() CPU 1: wait_event_timeout() times out; psp_dead=true Fixes: 200664d ("crypto: ccp: Add Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV) command support") Cc: [email protected] Signed-off-by: Jeremi Piotrowski <[email protected]> Acked-by: Tom Lendacky <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Kamal Mostafa <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Stefan Bader <[email protected]>

Use a CPUHP_AP_ONLINE_DYN entry instead to execute the cpuhp cb later, with preemption enabled. SDEI originally got its own cpuhp slot to allow interacting with perf. It got superseded by pNMI and this early slot is not relevant anymore. [1] Some SDEI calls (e.g. SDEI_1_0_FN_SDEI_PE_MASK) take actions on the calling CPU. It is checked that preemption is disabled for them. _ONLINE cpuhp cb are executed in the 'per CPU hotplug thread'. Preemption is enabled in those threads, but their cpumask is limited to 1 CPU. Move 'WARN_ON_ONCE(preemptible())' statements so that SDEI cpuhp cb don't trigger them. Also add a check for the SDEI_1_0_FN_SDEI_PRIVATE_RESET SDEI call which acts on the calling CPU. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2028808 [ Upstream commit ef6e199 ] In the function ieee80211_tx_dequeue() there is a particular locking sequence: begin: spin_lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); q_stopped = local->queue_stop_reasons[q]; spin_unlock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); However small the chance (increased by ftracetest), an asynchronous interrupt can occur in between of spin_lock() and spin_unlock(), and the interrupt routine will attempt to lock the same &local->queue_stop_reason_lock again. This will cause a costly reset of the CPU and the wifi device or an altogether hang in the single CPU and single core scenario. The only remaining spin_lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock) that did not disable interrupts was patched, which should prevent any deadlocks on the same CPU/core and the same wifi device. This is the probable trace of the deadlock: kernel: ================================ kernel: WARNING: inconsistent lock state kernel: 6.3.0-rc6-mt-20230401-00001-gf86822a1170f #4 Tainted: G W kernel: -------------------------------- kernel: inconsistent {IN-SOFTIRQ-W} -> {SOFTIRQ-ON-W} usage. kernel: kworker/5:0/25656 [HC0[0]:SC0[0]:HE1:SE1] takes: kernel: ffff9d6190779478 (&local->queue_stop_reason_lock){+.?.}-{2:2}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: {IN-SOFTIRQ-W} state was registered at: kernel: lock_acquire+0xc7/0x2d0 kernel: _raw_spin_lock+0x36/0x50 kernel: ieee80211_tx_dequeue+0xb4/0x1330 [mac80211] kernel: iwl_mvm_mac_itxq_xmit+0xae/0x210 [iwlmvm] kernel: iwl_mvm_mac_wake_tx_queue+0x2d/0xd0 [iwlmvm] kernel: ieee80211_queue_skb+0x450/0x730 [mac80211] kernel: __ieee80211_xmit_fast.constprop.66+0x834/0xa50 [mac80211] kernel: __ieee80211_subif_start_xmit+0x217/0x530 [mac80211] kernel: ieee80211_subif_start_xmit+0x60/0x580 [mac80211] kernel: dev_hard_start_xmit+0xb5/0x260 kernel: __dev_queue_xmit+0xdbe/0x1200 kernel: neigh_resolve_output+0x166/0x260 kernel: ip_finish_output2+0x216/0xb80 kernel: __ip_finish_output+0x2a4/0x4d0 kernel: ip_finish_output+0x2d/0xd0 kernel: ip_output+0x82/0x2b0 kernel: ip_local_out+0xec/0x110 kernel: igmpv3_sendpack+0x5c/0x90 kernel: igmp_ifc_timer_expire+0x26e/0x4e0 kernel: call_timer_fn+0xa5/0x230 kernel: run_timer_softirq+0x27f/0x550 kernel: __do_softirq+0xb4/0x3a4 kernel: irq_exit_rcu+0x9b/0xc0 kernel: sysvec_apic_timer_interrupt+0x80/0xa0 kernel: asm_sysvec_apic_timer_interrupt+0x1f/0x30 kernel: _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x3f/0x70 kernel: free_to_partial_list+0x3d6/0x590 kernel: __slab_free+0x1b7/0x310 kernel: kmem_cache_free+0x52d/0x550 kernel: putname+0x5d/0x70 kernel: do_sys_openat2+0x1d7/0x310 kernel: do_sys_open+0x51/0x80 kernel: __x64_sys_openat+0x24/0x30 kernel: do_syscall_64+0x5c/0x90 kernel: entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x72/0xdc kernel: irq event stamp: 5120729 kernel: hardirqs last enabled at (5120729): [<ffffffff9d149936>] trace_graph_return+0xd6/0x120 kernel: hardirqs last disabled at (5120728): [<ffffffff9d149950>] trace_graph_return+0xf0/0x120 kernel: softirqs last enabled at (5069900): [<ffffffff9cf65b60>] return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: softirqs last disabled at (5067555): [<ffffffff9cf65b60>] return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: other info that might help us debug this: kernel: Possible unsafe locking scenario: kernel: CPU0 kernel: ---- kernel: lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); kernel: <Interrupt> kernel: lock(&local->queue_stop_reason_lock); kernel: *** DEADLOCK *** kernel: 8 locks held by kworker/5:0/25656: kernel: #0: ffff9d618009d138 ((wq_completion)events_freezable){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: process_one_work+0x1ca/0x530 kernel: #1: ffffb1ef4637fe68 ((work_completion)(&local->restart_work)){+.+.}-{0:0}, at: process_one_work+0x1ce/0x530 kernel: #2: ffffffff9f166548 (rtnl_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #3: ffff9d6190778728 (&rdev->wiphy.mtx){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #4: ffff9d619077b480 (&mvm->mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #5: ffff9d61907bacd8 (&trans_pcie->mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: return_to_handler+0x0/0x40 kernel: #6: ffffffff9ef9cda0 (rcu_read_lock){....}-{1:2}, at: iwl_mvm_queue_state_change+0x59/0x3a0 [iwlmvm] kernel: #7: ffffffff9ef9cda0 (rcu_read_lock){....}-{1:2}, at: iwl_mvm_mac_itxq_xmit+0x42/0x210 [iwlmvm] kernel: stack backtrace: kernel: CPU: 5 PID: 25656 Comm: kworker/5:0 Tainted: G W 6.3.0-rc6-mt-20230401-00001-gf86822a1170f #4 kernel: Hardware name: LENOVO 82H8/LNVNB161216, BIOS GGCN51WW 11/16/2022 kernel: Workqueue: events_freezable ieee80211_restart_work [mac80211] kernel: Call Trace: kernel: <TASK> kernel: ? The plain invalidate_inode_pages2_range() call passes through GFP_KERNEL, which makes sense in most cases, but not here. Wrap these two invalidate callees with memalloc_nofs_save/memalloc_nofs_restore to make sure we don't end up with the fs reclaim dependency under the transaction dependency. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2028979 commit 691c041 upstream. Cited commit causes ABBA deadlock[0] when peer flows are created while holding the devcom rw semaphore. Due to peer flows offload implementation the lock is taken much higher up the call chain and there is no obvious way to easily fix the deadlock. Instead, since tc route query code needs the peer eswitch structure only to perform a lookup in xarray and doesn't perform any sleeping operations with it, refactor the code for lockless execution in following ways: - RCUify the devcom 'data' pointer. When resetting the pointer synchronously wait for RCU grace period before returning. This is fine since devcom is currently only used for synchronization of pairing/unpairing of eswitches which is rare and already expensive as-is. - Wrap all usages of 'paired' boolean in {READ|WRITE}_ONCE(). The flag has already been used in some unlocked contexts without proper annotations (e.g. users of mlx5_devcom_is_paired() function), but it wasn't an issue since all relevant code paths checked it again after obtaining the devcom semaphore. Now it is also used by mlx5_devcom_get_peer_data_rcu() as "best effort" check to return NULL when devcom is being unpaired. Note that while RCU read lock doesn't prevent the unpaired flag from being changed concurrently it still guarantees that reader can continue to use 'data'. - Refactor mlx5e_tc_query_route_vport() function to use new mlx5_devcom_get_peer_data_rcu() API which fixes the deadlock. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2028979 commit 87a7ae7 upstream. commit 4917f55 ("mm/sparse-vmemmap: improve memory savings for compound devmaps") added support for using optimized vmmemap for devdax devices. But how vmemmap mappings are created are architecture specific. For example, powerpc with hash translation doesn't have vmemmap mappings in init_mm page table instead they are bolted table entries in the hardware page table vmemmap_populate_compound_pages() used by vmemmap optimization code is not aware of these architecture-specific mapping. Hence allow architecture to opt for this feature. I selected architectures supporting HUGETLB_PAGE_OPTIMIZE_VMEMMAP option as also supporting this feature. This patch fixes the below crash on ppc64. BugLink: https://launchpad.net/bugs/2020295 Subclassing the generic USB device driver to override the default configuration selection regardless of matching interface drivers. The r815x family devices expose a vendor specific function which the r8152 interface driver wants to handle. This is the preferred device mode. Additionally one or more USB class functions are usually supported for hosts lacking a vendor specific driver. The choice is USB configuration based, with one alternate function per configuration. Example device with both NCM and ECM alternate cfgs: T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 4 Spd=5000 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 3.20 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 9 #Cfgs= 3 P: Vendor=0bda ProdID=8156 Rev=31.00 S: Manufacturer=Realtek S: Product=USB 10/100/1G/2.5G LAN S: SerialNumber=001000001 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=a0 MxPwr=256mA I:* If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Using the above example, Linux defaults to cfg #2, running the device in a sub-optimal NCM mode. Previously we've attempted to work around the problem by blacklisting the devices in the ECM class driver "cdc_ether", and matching on the ECM class function in the vendor specific interface driver. The latter has been used to switch back to the vendor specific configuration when the driver is probed for a class function. This workaround has several issues; - class driver blacklists is additional maintanence cruft in an unrelated driver - class driver blacklists prevents users from optionally running the devices in class mode - each device needs double match entries in the vendor driver - the initial probing as a class function slows down device discovery Now these issues have become even worse with the introduction of firmware supporting both NCM and ECM, where NCM ends up as the default mode in Linux. To use the same workaround, we now have to blacklist the devices in to two different class drivers and add yet another match entry to the vendor specific driver. This patch implements an alternative workaround strategy - independent of the interface drivers. It avoids adding a blacklist to the cdc_ncm driver and will let us remove the existing blacklist from the cdc_ether driver. As an additional bonus, removing the blacklists allow users to select one of the other device modes if wanted. Signed-off-by: Bjørn Mork <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: David S. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2024857 Currently kaslr_init() handles a mixture of detecting/announcing whether KASLR is enabled, and randomizing the module region depending on whether KASLR is enabled. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2039110 [ Upstream commit c1f848f ] When the tdm lane mask is computed, the driver currently fills the 1st lane before moving on to the next. If the stream has less channels than the lanes can accommodate, slots will be disabled on the last lanes. Unfortunately, the HW distribute channels in a different way. It distribute channels in pair on each lanes before moving on the next slots. This difference leads to problems if a device has an interface with more than 1 lane and with more than 2 slots per lane. For example: a playback interface with 2 lanes and 4 slots each (total 8 slots - zero based numbering) - Playing a 8ch stream: - All slots activated by the driver - channel #2 will be played on lane #1 - slot #0 following HW placement - Playing a 4ch stream: - Lane #1 disabled by the driver - channel #2 will be played on lane #0 - slot #2 This behaviour is obviously not desirable. Change the way slots are activated on the TDM lanes to follow what the HW does and make sure each channel always get mapped to the same slot/lane.
