**Welcome to OPN **
OPN is an Open Notice (OPN) Network to enable notice and signalling for people so they can see and understand privacy and surveillance. We believe if people can see privacy, then they would be able to protect and control their own personal information.
The OPN Network is built using work product from multiple community efforts over the last decade. Our aim with this repo is to give back to the community of efforts that have supported this work and for future work.
If you are apart of a standards effort or community and would like to contribute or test your specifications in the OPN network, lets us know by creating an issue and engaging.
**Why Notice? ** Effective digital transparency largely depends on provision of a notice, which historically has been a static document such as a privacy policy rather than a contextually useful notice or sign personalised by context. Through this paper, we present Open Notice (OPN) as a solution to address privacy challenges regarding signalling changes to privacy, security, and policy using computational semantics. OPN uses a semantic schema that enables organisations to broadcast signals and generate notice receipts for service users to autonomously track changes in the state of notice or privacy policy. The aim of OPN is to lessen the burden of understanding privacy for users and saving time and resources using a privacy notice receipts based on open standards. OPN is scheduled to have an initial public release in May 2019.
