Legal Issues

Is your software violating any licensing agreements? List all third-party software you plan to use and ensure that you have the right to use as you plan. We will be using paid subscriptions to Mongo, so our use of databases is fair. Otherwise, we will be using React, which is open-source, Python, and JavaScript, which permit commercial use.

Are there any intellectual property constraints placed by your client? or by the owner of some dataset you need to use? List them.

• Book cover images and book content are protected under copyright regulations, however, any owner of a book (the Bookstore) is allowed to resell any book without fear of copyright. To be sure copyright is not infringed, photos of the books that the Bookstore have could be taken by Bookstore employees, instead of using stock photographs.
• The Bookstore website will not offer samples of books, but may be able to redirect to iBooks or other book apps for users to download samples.

Can your users use your app to break the law? post copyright works on your webapp? steal information? etc. Users can post on The Bookstore Website, so they could post copyright-sensitive information, particularly book quotes. However, users will not be permitted to upload files to the website, and will attest before posting that they have cited any quotes via a pop up box.
