What's Changed

  • Add support for textured cool plate by @SoftFever in #6860
Orca now supports textured cool plates like BigTree's CryoGrip Textured Coating Steel Sheet. This allows you to easily adjust the z-offset for various types of cool plates.

    textured.cool.plate.mp4
  • Improve fuzzy skin with modifier by @Noisyfox in #6759
Previously, when we applied a modifier to add fuzzy skin to specific areas, the algorithm would split these regions into multiple parts, creating unwanted perimeters and islands. Now, Orca ensures continuous perimeters and infills while adding fuzzy skin only to the specified areas. This improvement enhances print quality and reduces print time.

What's Changed

  • Orca Slicer now support multi-tool printer by @SoftFever in #6087
As requested by many, Orca Slicer now supports multi-tool printers!
Users can define multi-tool(tool changer or IDEX) printers in Orca Slicer.
    Features supported:

    1. Assign extruders based on features.
      Screenshot 2024-09-14 at 11 47 55 AM.
    2. Ooze prevention, both Idle temperature and Temperature variation approach are supported
    3. Preheat next tool automatically based on time estimation. Support all firmwares(Prusa/Klipper/Marlin/etc)
    4. Supports mixing different line widths in a single print with multiple tools. This allows our printer to print with not only different materials/colors, but also control the line width for specific parts, to improve quality, strength, and speed using different nozzles with varying diameters.
For example, we can use one 0.4mm nozzle and one 0.8mm nozzle in one print; the line width will automatically adjust based on a percentage of the nozzle diameter (you will need to define the line width with a percentage in the settings).
      image

Note Two new tool changer printer profiles have been added into Orca: Generic ToolChanger based on Klipper and Prusa XL 5T. Multi tool printer need to setup the Custom g-codes properly, please ref to these two profiles if you want to define your own.

    image

❤️ Multi tool printer support feature is based on Prusa Slicer's multi tool printer support. Thanks to Prusa team for their open-source work and sharing it with the community!

  • New improved flow rate calibration: YOLO mode by @SoftFever in #6479

    YOLO.mp4

This new mode introduces a single-pass flow calibration that should cover 95% of cases, provided the printer's extruder has its e-steps/rotation-distance calibrated. Unlike the previous flow rate calibration, this new YOLO (You Only Look Once) calibration only requires print the test once.
Please pay attention that mode employs a linear method to adjust the flow rate. For a -0.03 block, the adjusted flow rate is calculated as filament_flow_rate - 0.03.
Two versions of the YOLO benchmark are provided: a default (recommended) and a perfectionist version. The default YOLO benchmark features a calibration range of [-0.05, +0.05] with an adjustment step size of 0.01. In contrast, the perfectionist version offers a smaller adjustment range of [-0.04, 0.035] with an even smaller step size of 0.005.

Detailed tutorial will be updated soon in WIKI

  • Enhancement: Adaptive Pressure advance by @igiannakas in #5609

We're excited to introduce another fantastic feature, implemented by @igiannakas, specifically designed for perfectionist users! The "Adaptive Pressure Advance" enhancement in OrcaSlicer now offers an automatic adjustment feature for pressure advance settings based on real-time flow rate and print acceleration.
This innovative feature helps improve print quality by compensating for varying extrusion dynamics during different speeds. As a result, it enables smoother transitions and more consistent layer deposition. The adaptive pressure advance also enhances prints by adjusting the pressure in the nozzle more dynamically, reducing artifacts such as blobs or gaps.

  • Port of Cura's multi-material interlocking by @Noisyfox in #5775
Remember UltiMaker Cura's awesome Unlock true multi-material printing with UltiMaker Cura 5.3? This innovative new feature unlock the full potential of you multi-tool printer!
Thanks to @Noisyfox, this feature has now been ported to Orca Slicer!

  • Better support for MMU devices with filament cutter(e.g. ERCF v2 and any MMU with a cutter like Filametrix) by @SoftFever in #6241

flush_length variable is now provide correct value based on the flush matrix set by the user.
pesudo code in Change filament gcode:

    ...
    T1
; Park head to the purging location
    G1 X0 Y-5 F12000
; Purge certain amount of filament into waste bin

This update introduces some new features and fixes some bugs found in the v2.1.0 Beta

What's Changed

  • Allow opt-out outer walls when adjusting speed for "slow-down for layer cooling" by @igiannakas in #5148
    outerwall

This creative slowdown approach enhances printing quality by reducing layer inconsistency due to varying print speeds. It specifically improves the quality of gloss-like materials by ensuring consistent outer wall print speeds. Variations in speed can impact the filament's melting time, affecting the shine of the outer walls.
    Untitled
PS: @igiannakas is an active contributor to the Orca Slicer project—big shout out to him for his contribution! He is also working on a new Pressure Advance feature. Please check it out here: #5609. More testing data is needed for this feature

  • Thumbnails feature enhancement. by @SoftFever in #5555
Support for generating various size/format combinations has been added. Users can now specify thumbnails in multiple configurations, such as 380x380/COLPIC, 210x210/COLPIC, and 380x380/PNG. This feature is particularly useful for printers that utilize multiple thumbnails for on-device screens and web interfaces, including models like the Qidi X3 series, Prusa MK4, MINI, Elegoo Neptune 4, and others. This is feature is loosely based on PrusaSlicer's work

What's Changed

  • Orca Slicer now features brand-new icons, thanks to @yw4z in #4368
These icons are designed to be more consistent, modern, and pixel-perfect, offering better color contrast. They align seamlessly with the new design of Orca Slicer. A big thanks to @yw4z for these new icons and numerous UI improvements!
    image

  • Orca Slicer now support open/import model from Prinables.com/Thingiverse.com/makerworld.com directly by @SoftFever and @Ocraftyone (#5486, #5416, #3823)
No more manual downloads! You can now open models directly from these sites, and Orca Slicer will automatically import them for you.

    printables
    thingiverse
    mw

You can enable this feature in the Preferences dialog.
Please note that this feature is currently available only for Windows.

image

  • Infill direction enhancements by @SoftFever in #5267
With the new enhancements, Orca Slicer now allows users to set sparse and solid infill directions independently. Users can also disable solid infill direction rotation, which is particularly useful when printing with transparent materials.

    infill.direction.mp4
  • Port new sparse infill pattern Cross Hatch and optimization by @SoftFever in #5495

In this release, a new infill pattern called CrossHatch has been introduced into Orca(thanks to BambuStudio). This pattern is similar to Gyroid and the new 3D HoneyComb introduced in OrcaSlicer 2.0 RC but offers even faster printing speeds. Orca has further optimized this infill pattern to enhance its performance at low infill densities.

    Before:
    image

    After:
    image

  • improve seam performance by @SoftFever in #5436
    image
    image

  • Support larger printer by @SoftFever in #5320
Orca Slicer previousely only support printer bed sizes smaller than 2147mm x 2147mm due to the limitations of the 32-bit data type.
This limitation also applies to the maximum number of platers you can create for a project.
The total width/length of all the plates cannot exceed this limit.
Orca Slicer now support sizes as large as desired.
For convenience, the limit is currently set to 214m x 214m x 214m.
SuperSlicer is referenced for some changes.
    image

  • ESP3D printer connection for wireless printing by @PreyK in #5399
Added ESP3D support for wireless printer connection to be able to send gcode & start printing directly from the slicer on printers with ESP3D module.
    image

  • fix wrong overhang slowdown value by @SoftFever in #4940

Fixed a bug that overhang slowdown may slowdown too much in some cases.
before, it slowed down to 4 mm/s despite we had minimal speed to 10:

    image

    after:

    image

  • SEMM: Introduced parameter to control the maximum speed used for purging in the purge tower by @igiannakas in #5304
Previousely the speed limit is set to 90mm/sec which works well; however speed gains can be made by increasing this if the printer is able to bridge at higher speeds in the wipe tower.
A max speed limit has been introduced for the purge tower. The existing, as is limits of volumetric flow for the filament and sparse infill speeds are respected. Same for the ramping up of purge speed up to the limit.

  • Adjustable infill wall overlap for top and bottom surfaces by @igiannakas in #4832
This new option allows for independent adjustment of the infill/wall overlap for internal solid and sparse infill and top and bottom surfaces.

  • Touchpad-friently 3d navigation by @buzzhuzz in #4598
    Implement FreeCAD-inspired touchpad navigation mode.
This mode makes 3d model inspection easier for devices with touchpad as the only pointer device.
    Controls:
    Shift+move: panning
    Alt+move: rotation

    nav-touchpad2.mp4
  • Orca Slicer default parameter tweaks by @SoftFever in #5406
Some parameters are tweaked to improve the print quality and speed for all printers
Gap fill are now disabled by default
top_surface_pattern are not default to Monotonic Line
Sparse infill pattern are now default to Cross hatch
    etc

  • Fixed a bug that top surface was mistaken as bridge in some cases by @SoftFever in #4678

    image

  • Precise Z Height

    image
When enabled, this option ensures the accurate Z height of the model after slicing, even if the model height is not a multiple of the layer height.
For example, slicing a 20mm x 20mm x 20.1mm cube with a layer height of 0.2mm would typically result in a final height of 20.2mm due to the layer height increments. By enabling this parameter, the layer height of the last five layers is adjusted so that the final sliced height matches the actual object height, resulting in an accurate 20.1mm (as shown in the picture). This feature is ported from BambuStudio.

  • Support Multi-device Management for Bambu printers(ported from BambuStudio)

What's Changed

  • Add overhang threshold for scarf joint seam by @SoftFever in #4725

This is the latest effort in the ongoing improvement of the scarf joint seam. This new feature introduces an overhang threshold for the scarf joint seam, allowing users to set a threshold for the overhang angle to prevent the application of the scarf joint seam. This improvement is based on the observation that the scarf joint seam, in general, doesn't play well with steep overhangs.

Meanwhile, the 'Scarf joint flow ratio' option has been moved to dev mode only, as its utility remains unclear based on testing results. Thanks to Adam (@psiberfunk) for the testing and feedback. You can enable dev mode to use this feature.
