Hash Checker Script Overview This script calculates and verifies the hash of files using various algorithms (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, etc.). It is useful for ensuring the integrity and authenticity of files by comparing their current hash values to expected ones.
Features Calculate hash for a single file or multiple files. Support for various hashing algorithms (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, etc.). Verify file integrity by comparing hashes. Command-line interface for ease of use.
Requirements Python 3.x hashlib library (comes pre-installed with Python) Installation Clone the repository to your local machine:
Copy code git clone https://github.com/yourusername/hash-checker.git
cd hash-checker
Usage: Calculate Hash To calculate the hash of a file, run the script with the desired hashing algorithm and file path:
Copy code :python hash_checker.py --algorithm sha256 --file path/to/your/file Verify Hash To verify a file's hash, provide the expected hash value:
Copy code :python hash_checker.py --algorithm sha256 --file path/to/your/file --verify expected_hash_value Available Algorithms md5 sha1 sha256 Command-Line Options --algorithm (required): Specify the hashing algorithm to use (e.g., md5, sha1, sha256). --file (required): Path to the file to be hashed. --verify (optional): Expected hash value to compare against.
Examples Calculate MD5 Hash
Copy code : python hash_checker.py --algorithm md5 --file example.txt Verify SHA-256 Hash
Copy code : python hash_checker.py --algorithm sha256 --file example.txt --verify
