This project is very open-ended! The goal will be to use GIS data about the City of Walla Walla to develop a useful application. The project may involve web app development using HTML5 and Javascript (for example, see this Street Tree Map - scroll down) or may use Python to automate GIS data processing.

Deepti and I have brainstormed several possibilities:

• If the user gives a location in the city, the app will calculate the drive time for an emergency vehicle to reach that location and show the route in GIS.
• Based on the existing location of certain type of businesses in the city (say fast food restaurants, vacation rentals/Airbnb, recreational marijuana stores), predict the best location for a new business of the same kind.
• Use sidewalk condition data to generate walking routes that are most accessible for walkers, wheelchairs, and baby strollers. Or, develop algorithms to prioritize sidewalk repairs/improvements to maximize their impact on access to important destinations.

Exact goals for this project will be developed in discussion between Deepti, Janet, and the team.
