Make Educational Games that Teach Paleo Facts

Background

Games are a great way to teach and inspire people of all ages. During its recent Pterosaurs exhibit, the museum produced Pterosaurs: The Card Game, which is based on the biodiversity card game Phylo. The augmented reality companion app for Pterosaurs: The Card Game explores these ancient reptiles and their food chains. When triggered by cards from the Pterosaurs deck, the app reveals animations of pterosaurs walking, flying, and more.

Additionally the iPad app "Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs" was released featuring:

  • interactive animations of pterosaurs flying, walking, eating, and displaying crests
  • multi-layered interactives that allow users to explore pterosaur fossils, behavior, and anatomy
  • interviews with leading paleontologists
  • kid-friendly interface
  • original artwork and photography

Solutions

  • Turn the card game into an app - maybe improve the game play?
  • Use existing museum resources to create a new game; check resource links from all of the challenges for relevant content
