Flash Messages for your Express Application
Flash is an extension of connect-flash
with the ability to define a flash message
and render it without redirecting the request.
Install it using:
npm install --save express-flash
npm install --save express-session
Set it up the same way you would connect-flash
:
const flash = require('express-flash');
const session = require('express-session');
const express = require('express');
const app = express();
// initialise session middleware - flash-express depends on it
app.use(session({
secret : "<add a secret string here>",
resave: false,
saveUninitialized: true
}));
// initialise the flash middleware
app.use(flash());
Use req.flash()
in your middleware
app.get('/', function (req, res) {
req.flash('info', 'Welcome');
res.render('index', {
title: 'Home'
})
});
app.get('/addFlash', function (req, res) {
req.flash('info', 'Flash Message Added');
res.redirect('/');
});
Access messages in Handlebars views use locals.messages
:
- session - http-session middleware - install it using
npm install --save express-session
