CUMathSoc is CarletonU Math Society run by students. We aim to enirch student's experience in the Math program by running social events and invite speakers to talk about random Math topics, their research or about different jobs available in the industry.
This is run and created by Math students. As of 2023, the website is coded in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The goal is to not make the website overly complex with many dependencies and backend. This site will be a static site for the moment for simplicity and for operational cost (i.e. Github and Github pages are free). For future generations taking over the website, it is not expected that the students have much web programming background so we do not want them to have a steep learning curve and figure out how React works and etc. Things could change for the future generation but as of 2023, we (i.e. @zakuarbor) felt it's best to keep it simple.
To add an event or news, edit scripts/data/events.js
and move old events to events-archive.js
to remove clutter.
Copy google, outlook, and the link for ICS from https://parcel.io/tools/calendar to create calendar event links. To locally test, reading the README file under test/
Posters can be created using any photo editing software. For the Fall 2023 term, Gimp and Google Slides are used as it is free and open source that runs well on Linux.
QR code are created using: https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/ No trackers can be utilized to gather metrics such as number of scans and the device OS as premium account would be required.
