Daisuke Fukuzawa is a Junior Professional Officer at the East Asia and Pacific Chief Economist Office, where he monitors macro-economic conditions of the countries in the region and develops biannual East Asia and Pacific Economic Update. The figure's data covered the period of March-December 2021. Dependent variables were derived from individual responses to the following questions in the survey:

* "In the past 4 weeks, did you do any work for pay? By work for pay, we mean any kind of business, farming, or other activity to earn money, even if only for one hour." (unemployment);
* "How worried are you about having enough to eat in the next week?"(food security); and
* "How worried are you about your household's finances in the next month?"(household finance security).


## Impact

The COVID-19 pandemic was both a health shock and an economic shock to all regions in the world, EAP included. It is vital for policymakers to manage the endemicity of COVID-19 and prepare health systems for future pandemics. This will require strengthening surveillance and preparedness.
