Below you can find details of my quadcopter and some thoughts..
Hobbyking.com is your friend so is eBay and loads of patience! :)
- to start off invest in an robust frame (i.e. aluminium); you will crash your quadcopter often and you do not want to spend weeks every time rebuilding it; at the beginning do not care much about weight of the quadcopter
- do not rush, plan as much as possible, ask people around
- Flyduino 25cm
- Afro ESC Slim 20 Amp x4
- Odroid - W
- Battery 5200 mAh 3s
- Motors: Sunnysky X2212-980kv
- Frame: HobbyKing Mini Quadcopter Frame V1 - 539mm (if you think of buying one - get more of them + gorilla glue)
- ESC: Afro ESC 20 Amp x4
- Motors: Turnigy Multistar 2209 980Kv x4 (too powerful for the flimsy frame, you will need some DIY skills to get it fitted and strengthen the frame)
- Propellers: HQ Graupner Style- Carbon reinforced Propellers 9x5 (really great and well balanced propellers!)
- Power distribution: XT60 to 4 x 3.5mm Bullet power cable
- Battery: Turnigy 2200 mAh 3S
- Battery monitor: On Board Lipoly Low Voltage Alarm (2s~4s)
*** Other parts ***
- Raspberry Pi A model + camera
- Arduini Pro Mini 16Mhz clone
- Trust Bluetooth dongle 2.1
- PS3 sixaxis controller
The above setup provides around 15 to 20 minutes of flight time
