Currently, the script just guesses a target path based on the default config. This fails if the project or the user has configured a different target directory. This code is shorter and more correct.
This reverts commit a8dc213. Linking flags should be provided by the system-deps crate. Specifying linking with the attribute creates issue when statically linking system dependencies.
These aliases were added in rust 1.64.
