How to Register DOI's

There are two methods of creating new DOI’s

  1. Create an XML or JSON file with all of the appropriate fields, using a template similar to the example at the end of this document and upload the file after entering basic unique DOI information.
  2. Enter all of the appropriate fields via the datacite form that includes all necessary fields.
Note: My method was to create one DOI using the datacite form and filling in all necessary fields based on the collection information. Once the DOI is created, download the Datacite XML form that is provided and create a template from their XML. This is useful when multiple fields contain the same information, such as “Creator” information. Create a new file for each new DOI based on the template file and use the “Upload File” method for the remaining DOIs – you will be asked for the unique DOI information in the first fields and then you will upload the template file.

Required Fields for new DOIs
