## 2024-10-29

### Team Meeting

Agenda:

* Introduce William Wolff
* Short demo by Roland on newest ΔQ stuff
* Ledger preliminary design from giorgos

* Presentation by Roland of ΔQ modelling
* comparing with Simon's Rust simulation, even if it does not simulate fully Leios
* model the same things, ΔQ provide a high level comparable to Rust's simulation
* Articulate how what ΔQ tool coordinates
* Ledger design presentation by Giorgos
* how to avoid duplicates? => sharding, assign each tx and IB to shards => ensure tx are included in a single block
* naive approach: use modulus, easy attack = add a nonce to a tx to be able to include it multiple IBs
* => all txs are double spending, but fees get only paid once
* proposal:
* fees paying token / shard, can freely be converted w/ ADA
* IB of shard i should not have tx consuming token of shard j
* fees of IB i are paid with token shard i
* ensure IB from different shards will never consume token from other shards
* *important* : fees are always paid, even if tx is not included in the ledger
* Q: what about multiple tokens per UTxO?
* grinding with people trying to overload one shard?
* # shards w.r.t IB rate => decrease probability of concurrent IBs for the same shard
* challenges:
* a tx could be discarded but its fees would still be paid
* pb in the case of apps which use "concurrent" state machine advance pattern -> perhaps this should not be free in the first place?
* assign shards in a "random" way, tune shards in such a way that transmission time makes the probability of the shards to overlap very low
* needs to be grinding resistant
* if shards are concurrent only x% of the time that may be acceptable
* multiple shard types on a single block to have more control over parallelism?
* use VRF to generate a random sequence of "colors" to include in a block, attach colors to txs
