Portions of text look cut off in some locales [safari]

Problem description
Seen while testing phetsims/qa#1039 but unrelated to changes there (because also in published):
I noticed that in Acid Base Solutions, portions of the text appear to be getting cut off in the Solutions panel with the locale Telugu.

This doesn't happen with chrome.

Also seen with in CCK AC:

• with Kannada when moving the Inductor slider back and forth.
• with Telugu when moving most sliders, and in title of voltage chart

This seems somewhat better with my recent changes, but I'm still able to reproduce the CCK-AC inductor slider issue.

This... looks like something that there's not too much I can do. FORCING the workaround to update every frame doesn't even work.

In phetsims/qa#1052, the Telgu and Kannada locales of the pH sims show an odd text glitch in the "Neutral" label as water is filling past it.

In Greenhouse 1.0 with Telugu using mac + safari (not chrome) I see something similar to the above comment. I don't see this with 1.2.
