List of changes proposed in this PR:

  • Bring some of the changes from update: Revamp full disk encryption section #2437 to a new PR with some changes, as the original author gave their permission to do so here
    • Reword the "OS Full Disk Encryption" heading to "Operating System Encryption"
      • Reasoning: The original heading is not entirely accurate since BitLocker and FileVault are described as full volume encryption solutions underneath.
    • Rework the introduction to the OS Encryption section of the Encryption Software page using @friadev's suggestion here
    • In the FileVault card, replace the external link to Apple's docs with an internal link to the section about hardware security in the macOS Overview
    • Specify where to store a local recovery key for FileVault
    • Remove mention of ElcomSoft's blog article published in 2021 (which hasn't been updated since) about TPM for a reason similar to the one expressed here
      • That is, official documentation is much more likely to be updated than third-party blog articles. This is particularly relevant for information pertaining to computer hardware and operating systems, which may have new features introduced to them by OEMs or major OS updates, respectively.
  • OpenPGP section
    • Update the link and language for the status of GPG Suite to reflect the release of macOS Sequoia
    • Move the information about OpenKeychain's audit from the card description to the area under the card, which is the typical place for such info
  • tools.md
    • Update the admonition in the Encryption Software section to reflect the first two changes above
    • Add a subheading to distinguish and group Cryptomator et al.
  • Add an internal link to the FileVault listing in the FileVault section of the macOS Overview
  • Make other wording changes not listed above
