The travis CI build status badge wasn't working, so it was removed. Used new badge for downloads

@curieux Can you take a look at this? This PR fixes the broken doc build process, adds a new notebook for using persistence landscapes and fixes broken badges in the readme. |

The docs are currently failing to build due to a change in read the docs yaml spec: https://blog.readthedocs.com/use-build-os-config/. This PR is an attempt to fix that along with other formatting issues in the documentation.
