Known Issues and Limitations

The use of AdvancedFirmata (or StandardFirmata) covers a wide variety of digital and analog components, but does not enable all types of components to be used with Breakout. For example, SPI devices are not supported (but many SPI devices also have an I2C mode which is supported by Firmata), serial devics (such as a sensor that connects to an I/O board via a serial connection) are not supported, you can only transfer data at the rate of 57600 baud so high speed operations such as generating an IR remote signal or clocking mp3 data from an encoder are not supported.

There is also a more advanced use of Breakout which does not depend on AdvancedFirmata that enables users send any type of data between the I/O board and Breakout. See the Using Custom Firmware with Breakout for details.
