NX 8E Serial Connector Pinout
NX-8E serial connector is a 10 pin IDC male connector on the alarm panel circuit board. It is easiest usually to use an adapter cable to convert this to a standard 9-pin (DE-9) RS-232 connector.
Pinout on the connector uses the so called "DTK/INTEL" PC motherboard pinout. So ready-made adapter cables are rather easy to find. WARNING! There is alternate pinout used on some PC motherboards (AT/EVEREX), ready made cables following this standard will not work, but are often easy to modify with little bit of soldering...
Signal Name | IDC connector pin | Direction | DE-9 connector pin | Signal Name |

N/C | 2 | 6 | DSR (not used) | |
TX | 3 | NX-->PC | 2 | RX |
CTS | 4 | NX-->PC | 7 | RTS |
RX | 5 | NX<--PC | 3 | TX |
RTS | 6 | NX<--PC | 8 | CTS |
N/C | 7 | 4 | DTR (not used) | |
N/C | 8 | 9 | RI (not used) | |
GND | 9 | NX<->PC | 5 | GND |
N/C | 10 | N/A | not used |
When using standard motherboard ribbon cable with NX-8E, typically also a straight through serial cable (DE-9 female to DE-9 female) will be needed. Alternatively DE-9 (female to female) gender changer can be handy if planning on connecting USB to Serial adapter.
