Closed #58 as it was a duplicate however copying across issue description for further context:
On the Enquiry Management Tool, we currently have a “back” button enabled to allow the user to easily navigate to the last viewed screen.
If you apply a filter on the “Summary screen” to pull/retrieve a certain criteria of enquiries and you select one of these enquiries.
Once on the detailed view, if you click the “back” button, you will be returned to the summary screen as expected.
However, when you have returned to the “Summary screen”, the filters have been reset.
If you click the back button of the browser, the applied filter is remain - presumed this is due to the browser cache.
From a usability perspective, it would be better if that “back” button is clicked, the applied filter remains.
I have checked how Data Hub deals/reacts in this scenario and Data Hub has incorporated the use of the “Breadcrumbs” component instead of the “Back link” component.
Therefore, to mimic current Data Hub behaviour, we should implement the “Breadcrumb” component and remove the “Back link” component to align to the Data Hub design.
Breadcrumb navigation is potentially more useful for users than a simple back link.
See here for an example from Data Hub:
