How Has This Been Tested?
None of the possible solutions are perfect. In my opinion, the in-memory solution would be the best but it would need to be implemented in upstream WebView2 ("fairly low on [their] backlog")
I use possible solution 1 in my application. It is not without faults. One fault: if you launch an elevated updater, and that updater launches your application, by default your application will be started with the elevated permissions and you will run into the same issue again.
