The #watir IRC channel on http://freenode.net/ is a public group chat.

Probably the easiest way to join is to use Freenode's web gateway:

Go to http://webchat.freenode.net/
In the Nickname text field enter a nickname you would like to use
In the Channels text field enter #watir
Input the reCAPTCHA
Press the Connect button below the text fields
