There will be an XProc Community Group meeting in Leipzig on Sept. 5 & 6, 2018.
See also: attendees.
It will be hosted by le-tex publishing services GmbH at their premises, Weißenfelser Str. 84, 04229 Leipzig, Germany. See map. It is a 6-minute walk from there to the suggested hotel:
We preliminarily reserved 9 rooms at a recently opened “integration hotel” in our neighborhood. It is former parish house from approx. 1900 that has been beautifully restored and and redesignated as a hotel. More than 40% of the employees are disabled, therefore it is also a socially favorable endeavor.
Unfortunately, their site is only in German. Some, but not all of the staff speak English. See map and reviews.
They have 18 sq.m. (classic) and 25 sq.m. (comfort) rooms. The nightly rates are:
- Classic single occupancy: 79 €
- Comfort single occupancy: 89 €
- Classic double occupancy: 89 €
- Comfort double occupancy: 99 €
Please tell Gerrit until July 15 whether you need a room, which type, and for how many people (one or two).
Ryanair offers direct connections between Stansted and Leipzig/Halle. STN→LEJ on Sept. 4 departs at 19:15 and arrives at 21:55. LEJ→STN departs at 22:20 on Sept. 6 and arrives at 23:05. Fares start at £ 12.99 per flight (as at June 27).
There are train connections from Frankfurt (also from FRA airport), Munich or Hamburg that take less than 3.5 hours. You can get from Prague to Leipzig by car in 2.5 hours, by bus in 3 to 3.5 hours, or by train via Dresden in 4 hours.
There are flights to one of the Berlin airports from which you reach Leipzig within 2 hours by train, car, or bus. For example, Easyjet serves Schönefeld (SXF) or Tegel (TXL) from Paris CDG and Orly, respectively, from Copenhagen, Luton, Gatwick, Bristol, Manchester and many other airports.
You can get to Leipzig by train entirely (unless departing from Australia, America, or Africa). It takes a bit more than 9 hours from London St Pancras, 8 hours from Łódź or Copenhagen, 7.5 hours from Amsterdam, and 7 hours from Brussels, Paris, or Vienna.
The Gewandhaus orchestra is one of the leading orchestras of the world. There is a concert on Thursday Sept. 6. Please let Gerrit know whether you are interested in tickets and how much you are willing to pay (up to € 62, with decent seats starting at € 21).
Apart from that, Leipzig is full of all kinds of cultural highlights. For example, there are some decent pubs in the Plagwitz/Lindenau neighborhood where the hotel and the le-tex office is located. Also in this neighborhood is the Baumwollspinnerei with many art galleries. Famous artist Neo Rauch’s studio is there, too. Or coming back to music, there is a motet (featuring St Thomas Boys Choir) each Friday at 6 pm at St Thomas Church (whose cantor Bach was).
