CMI 5 Working Group Meeting Minutes – September 19th, 2014

Attendees

  • William A. McDonald – Boeing Flight Services
  • Bruce Williamson – Boeing Defense Systems
  • Ben Clark – Rustici Software
  • Art Werkenthin – RISC Technology
  • Andy Johnson – ADL
  • Chris Handorf – Pearson
  • Henry Ryng – INXSOL

Notes

The group reviewed the Course structure XSD to resolve apparent name-spacing issue. Bill McDonald will provide an update later in the week.

The rest of the meeting was devoted to discussing the possibility of having the LMS set “modes” in the state API to modify content behavior for different situations.

The notion of “Review Mode” (and other modes like “Normal Mode” and “Browse Mode”) are concepts that have been used before in AICC/SCORM specifications to varying degrees of success.

The desire is to allow the LMS to set a “Mode” in the State API that the content could read and change its behavior on.

For example a “review mode” where the learner is reviewing materials already completed/mastered with the expectation that data is not being recorded for completion/grading purposes and navigation behavior would be less restrictive.

There were similar notions discussed for potentially having the LMS purge records for AU’s launched in “no-credit” or auditing a course.

This raised a number of questions and concerns about interoperability (and conformance requirements) that will require further discussion.

Next Time

Next meeting we will:

  • Continue to discuss “Review Mode” in the Runtime Data model.
  • Review XSD
