Platform Shutdown Procedure

When you are ready to shut down for the day, follow these steps to put away the platforms:

  1. Prepare the platform stand upon which you will store the platform. Note the proper orientation of the platform and platform stand so as to not squash the pucks and plumbing.

  2. From the GUI, navigate to the Direct Hardware Controls tab. Click Pucks On for whichever platform you want to remove from the table first. Only float one platform at a time.

  3. Once the platform is floating, grip it firmly from below and lift evenly. Carefully carry the platform over to the stand. With the help of your lab partner, carefully deposit the platform onto the stand.

Warning

Take extra care to not allow the pucks to touch the table or the stand as this will damage the pucks.

Caution

Ensure that all pucks and external tubing are not damaged when placed onto the platform stand (i.e., pucks are not touching the stand, tubing is not being squished). Failure to do so may, in a worst case scenario, cause significant plumbing leaks or require the replacement of expensive components.

  1. Once the platform has been safely deposited, unscrew the pin that allows airflow into the thrusters and pucks. Turn counterclockwise (facing the pressure gauges) until you see the pressure readings decreasing.

  1. Wait until the pressure reads 0 on both gauges. At this point, you can return to the GUI and click on Pucks Off. The platform can now be safety powered down. If desired you can also safely unscrew the air tank to remove it for charging.

Tip

If you are having difficulties removing the air tank from the platform, ensure that the system has been completely depressurized.

  1. Repeat this process for any other platforms on the table.

Next Step

If this is the end of the day and you need to clean up, follow the end of day cleanup procedure.
