Adding tips from trees to the taxonomy

If, when editing a study in OpenTree, you discover a tip label on a phylogeny that you think should map to the Open Tree Taxonomy but does not, you can add that label as a new taxon in the taxonomy.

In the OTU mapping tab, select any unmapped taxa and then click the button that says "Open new taxa form for selected OTUs". See image below, with the button in bottom right:

This will open a form for metadata about the new taxon / taxa. When completing this form:

• You can optionally modify the original label (to remove extraneous characters, fix a typo, submit a synonym, etc)
• We check to make sure the proposed label does not already exist in the taxonomy.
• At least one source is required, but you can add as many as you like. This can be a link to this taxon in an online taxonomy, or a publication describing the taxon.
• The information provided will be displayed in the synthetic tree browser and the taxonomy browser when a user clicks on the taxon name

The new taxa will be immediately mapped to OTUs in the current study. Don't forget to save the study to preserve these changes!
