About Anamnesis

Anamnesis is a standalone tool that is used to modify certain clientside-only values and allow the user a greater degree of flexibility for making creative and interesting screenshots. It confers no advantage to players who use it, and the developers have gone to great lengths to make sure that no part of the tool's functionality can be abused to affect anything outside the scope of the project.

In short, this tool allows its users to temporarily change their race, gender, appearance, equipment, etc. in game without actually making any changes visible to other players. It also provides the ability to pose as monsters, NPCs, and more. The most widely used module, Posing Matrix, allows the user to tweak existing emotes or create your own poses. As such, this tool can be looked at as a valuable resource for both beginner and advanced screenshot lovers.

As with any standalone tool, Anamnesis should not be used in conjunction with anything that would violate the Final Fantasy XIV ToS, and failure to abide by any restrictions, limitations or rules laid out by any relevant bodies is not the responsibility of the developers of Anamnesis. Any damages that result from misuse of either the tool in its entirety or any of its component functions or code snippets are additionally not the responsibility of the developers of the tool.

The Anamnesis project is currently being spearheaded by Yuki, with assistance by Asgard, contributions and project management from Ani-ki, and information-curating by Peebs-miqo.

Limitations

The following are limitations of the tool, both due to game limitations and self-imposed restrictions to prevent misuse:

  • The tool does not work exactly the same as its predecessor. They are build on different architecture and thus do not hook into the game the exact same way. As such, you should not expect Anamnesis to work the same way Concept Matrix does.
  • The tool is intended for the purpose of taking screenshots. As such, it cannot be used in place of a Fantasia, and any changes you make to an actor, including but not limited to appearance and attire, will not be carried over between loading screens.
  • The tool cannot be used while at the Aesthetician or in the Character Creation menu. This is a preventative measure to ensure client-side data is not sent back to the server, and as such you will be unable to utilise the tool while in either of these instances.
  • Posing and animation can only be done whilst in GPose, and will be unavailable until the tool detects that you are in GPose.
  • The tool cannot be used to modify enemies while in instances, especially with regard to locking/limiting attack speed.
  • The tool cannot be used to manipulate the camera in such a way that would grant the user an unfair advantage whist in any instance, including but not limited to PvP.
  • The tool can only be used fully on Windows versions of the game, IE from the Square Enix store, physical Windows copies, or through Steam. The development team currently have no plans to make this available for Mac versions of the game, or on Linux, without significant assistance from experienced developers who run the game on these systems.

Whilst Anamnesis is a successor to Concept Matrix, it is not a 1-to-1 upgrade of the latter, and with the focus of the tool being solely on taking screenshots, there are features of Concept Matrix that people may be familiar with, but will not be included in Anamnesis. You can read more about these specific features in the Before Making a Suggestion page.

A Brief History of the Tool

Anamnesis' precursor, Concept Matrix, was originally created by LeonBlade as a CheatEngine script called 'SSTools'. In the early ages of its lifetime Johto took over, maintaining and updating the SSTools project. Krisan Thyme and Seria Myouna would join the project after beginning work on a new branch- CMTools- which was eventually merged into the main SSTools repository. The two were eventually combined to become the base of Concept Matrix.

After creating a customised version of Posing Matrix which came to be known as SimplePose, Yuki would eventually begin a rewrite of Concept Matrix to incorporate cleaner code from the perspective of an industry professional. With Johto's departure of the main project, Concept Matrix entered its final stage of development, to be succeeded by Anamnesis (then under the project name 'Concept Matrix 3'), and LeonBlade took over the Concept Matrix project as a whole again. SimplePose would similarly be reworked into PoseGUI, Anamnesis' main posing window.
