First, let me say the TestMenu patch is not working, because we've literally hit the limit of the configuration size (32 bits for now)...

Key features from upstream:

  • Encrypted firmware.bin loading (if you add the matching cetk file)
  • Built-in pathchanger
  • Improvements to the settings string loading.

  • AuroraWright added support for displaying a text file /puma/pinmessage.txt (max 800 characters) while the console is locked.
  • Also by her, improvements to the splash screen logic.
  • Absolutely untested alternate download that uses /homebrew/cfw/puma/* instead of the usual base folder.
  • Ah, I like the letter A a lot!

Puma33DS v8

Well, Luma was the subject of a major refactor (that is, instead of being two physically separate projects, the dev and noob versions are now only one, with the advanced features being unlockable at compile time);

this of course means the dilemma for nightly users ("what's better: a version that gets updates first and more of the devs' attention, or one with more features?") is going to be much reduced or even nonexistent!

So, after redowloading the fresh upstream source and reimplementing the Puma extras, plus fighting for a half hour with git to make it not try to overwrite Aurora's repo, we proudly present... Puma33DS v8

So, enough storytelling, let's get to the facts:

  • Now based on Luma-dev
    • Optional Unitinfo patch
    • Crash dumps
    • Option to reduce system stability and enhance user excitement
    • Kernel/driver loading from SD
  • Country spoofing is now controlled by the region/language/code/knuckles option
  • Based, of course, on the most recent Luma
    • Choice of 4, 6, 8, or 0 digit PIN
    • Quadruple emunand support
      • B button is now fully reserved for external payloads
    • CPU speed adjustment hidden on O3DS

Enjoy!

This update adds recent changes from Luma3DS, including a very notable feature: namely, support for running 1.x or 2.x sysnands with the kernel write protection patch (Corbenik having already been able to run them, with without any patch).

Improvements to the PIN system (actually protecting the settings, and the saved password being deleted if disabled) and to CFW speed are also included.

Additionally, a system for forcing the configuration to be recreated if the selection of options changed has been implemented!

Puma33DS v6 Pre-release
Pre-release

As requested by Yakuma and alpha_moi of Gbatemp, this version adds code -- part of which is to be credited to @yifanlu's infamous Cosmo3DS -- to spoof eShop country code in an attempt to support eShop on region changed systems.

While I've tested using this feature to select Poland and I was indeed asked to confirm switching the eShop account to that country, I've not checked if it actually helps across regions. Good luck!

To use this feature, just create a 2-character text file /puma/locales/country.txt, containing for example "PL".
No options (for now) have to be set, just create this file!

This was supposed to only rename, upon popular (i.e @tvall43's) demand, the /luma storage folder to /puma.

Of course, @AuroraWright thought it would be a nice idea to improve Luma in the meanwhile, so this version also features these innovations by the scene's 2016 most popular coding duo:

  • Detailed error if attempting to boot 3.1 or unde
  • Status caching for speed improvements
  • TwlBg patches are optional (yes I seriously wasn't the one to add this; thank @TuxSH!)

Puma has been updated with the latest cool features of Luma, for instance:

  • Pin lock (require programmable button sequence before launching payloads)
  • New and improved splash screen logic (also applies to .bin payloads; speaking of which, have you updated Decrypt9 recently?)
  • TwlBg patching (allow both SD and SLOT-1 in DSi mode; a practical application is NitroHax, a homebrew alternative to Action Replay)
  • Behind the scenes improvement to system instability and user satisfaction (You know what these are for)

This is the first really public, open source, VCS-synced version.
(Versions 1-3 were privately released some days ago, for varying interpretations of "private" and "release").
