This page will let you learn about what Tabletop Simulator, X-Wing TMG and this mod are.

Tabletop Simulator & Steam

Tabletop Simulator (TTS) is a game developed by Berserk Games team, published on Steam.

It is a single/multiplayer board game sandbox, where users can create mods (also called tables since each game takes place on a single table), share them using Steam Workshop and play online. Tabletop Sim itself does not enforce any kind of rules, it is a physics sandbox with tools to interact with things like it was a real table, and tools to create game elements to fully mimic the real experience. TTS includes server browser, global chat and some features like turn system, spectators option etc. to encourage setting up public tables and allowing you to discover new games, get to know new people.

By importing 3D models as custom figurines, images as decks, tokens and other game elements, writing scripts to assist with gameplay and arranging it all on the table, people create "mods". They are simply saved games that can be easily shared through Steam workshop and downloaded and used for free by anyone. All the assets must be hosted outside, on sites like imgur.com or similiar depending on the content. TTS community is amazing and has since ported thousands of real-life or custom-made boardgames - that you can play for free any time if you own Tabletop Simulator!

TTS also has few DLCs, which are paid, curated and very polished adaptations of some real-life boardgames. Keep in mind that you do not have to buy any of these to play other games on TTS. But most of them is very worth it, of exceptionally high quality, and you support original game creators this way. Also, only one person (host) needs to buy the DLC to set up a multiplayer table, you can join DLC games even if you didn't buy them yourself!

Steam is a publishing platform for games, has its own client, store and integrates handful of very gamer-useful features and community hubs for each game it sells. If you play games and didn't know that, that must be a very comfortable rock you're under.

X-Wing Miniatures game (X-Wing TMG)

X-Wing TMG is a miniature based board game published by Fantasy Flight Games. It is about spacecraft battles in the Star Wars universe. It is sold as sets, with two "core" sets and many "expansion" sets, each coming with at least one ship miniature and all the cards, tokens, rule references etc. you need to incorporate it in your play.

In standard play, two players face versus each other. Each player brings his own squad which consists of number of ships, pilots flying them and upgrades to the ships. Elements you bring in are "priced" to balance out sides. Then players set up on the play area and proceed in turns. Players perform moves, actions and attacks to ultimately destroy all opposing ships and win.

X-Wing TMG community is really big, and you can find it's hubs on FFG forums, Reddit, Steam (example TTS group), Slack and many other sites. Guides are plentiful, with the official 10-minute tutorial video being a perfect thing to watch as your first contact with the game. If you're reading this and plan on maybe following the Quickplay guide, this video is the minimum you need to know about the game.

This mod (table), published on Steam Workshop and having its script and developement managed here, aims to connect two above elements. It is about allowing you to play standard format X-Wing TMG and any similiar derivative modes on TTS out-of-the-box and with minimal overhead you need to spend on learning about it.

It provides:

  • All the core elements (ships, cards etc) needed to play X-Wing.
  • Additional game elements (rulebooks, reference cards) to improve quality of play.
  • Custom tools to minimize tedious parts of the game (list building, range measurements etc).
  • Movement automation so you don't have to fiddle with templates most of the time + overlap (bump) support.
  • Dial assignment and usage automation so you can do as much as you can through simple button clicks.
  • Wide array of automated actions available through Commands.
  • Everything laid out and organized so you can start playing right away!.
