The goal of the project is to create a "DrifterNode." This is a device that will be thrown into a body of water and use GPS/IMU information to track data on the currents in the water based off of its movement. The information will be stored on the device itself, which will be a raspberry pi with the sd card as the central storage that can later be retreived and studied. The device will also be equipped with an XBEE or some sort of long range communications that will broadcast the device's current location at a rate of 1Hz, or some small interval. All of the components must be encapsulated in a waterproof container and must provide adequete cooling so the components can withstand the outdoor environment. We will also create a GUI for use on Windows that will display the location of the device(s) based on the information that the device is broadcasting via long range WIFI. The GUI will show the nodes on a Google map/Google Earth window.
