Tab Source

Vyacheslav Izgagin edited this page Jun 27, 2024 · 1 revision

This tab summarizes all parameters of the bremsstrahlung source.

Radionuclides content

image

Contains a list of radionuclides contained in the source material. For each radionuclide the activity is set. The summary activity recorded in the Total Activity field is taken into account in calculations.

To add new radionuclide click Add button. When mouse hover the radionuclide name, the dropdown list appears to choose other radionuclide.

The order in which radionuclides are listed is not taken into account in the calculations.

Source Geometry

Specifies the source geometry and calculation geometry.

image

The drop-down list contains the available calculation geometries:

Rectangular parallelepiped

Default dimensions of parallelepiped are 10x10x10 cm. Default discreteness is 100x100x100.

image

Cylinder Radial

The cylinder has a radius of 10 cm and a default height of 30 cm. Default discreteness is 100x300x10. The last discreteness value corresponds to the azimuthal angle, the value of which is always equal to 180.

The irradiation geometry corresponds to the propagation of bremsstrahlung in the radial direction (along the cylinder radius).

Cylinder Axial

The cylinder has a radius of 10 cm and a default height of 30 cm. Default discreteness is 100x300x10. The last discreteness value corresponds to the azimuthal angle, the value of which is always equal to 180.

Point

The point source has no dimensions, so the parameter region for it is empty.

Source Material

Specifies the source material from a list of available materials. When selected, a drop-down list opens.

image

After selection is confirmed, the tabular values of the effective atomic number and density of the material are substituted into the Zeff and Density fields. Zeff and Density could be corrected by user.

Bremsstrahlung

Contains energy-intensity data of bremsstrahlung.

image

Before calculation, the spectrum of bremsstrahlung is divided into 10 energy groups. The characteristics of each group are listed in this table.

  • Energy, MeV - average energy of group;
  • Yield, Mev/decay - energy yield of bremsstrahlung evaluated by Wyard equation;
  • Energy Flux, MeV/s - flux of energy of bremsstrahlung photons evaluated via source total activity;
  • Photons Flux, photon/s - flux of bremsstrahlung photons evaluated using total activity and average group energy.

Total Yield, MeV/decay - summary yield of bremsstrahlung photons calculated with modified Wyard equation.

Cutoff energy

This field specifies the cutoff energy below which no dose calculation will be performed. The lower threshold is set according to the lower limit of tabular values.
