J2ME is a reduced size Java Virtual Machine that was used by many mobiles, and games were written for these mobiles.
J2ME emulation is just in "fair" shape. Getting each game working is a challenge, and the emulation of the phone interface is hit-and-miss on both display and input.
But I've gotten DoomRPG and the Castlevania clone Souls of Darkness running in the Retroarch J2ME core, but it was tough finding a version of the jar game that worked in a minimal sense.
