Vxnaid™

Vxnaid™ is a digital platform developed by Johnson & Johnson Global Public Health and partners. The platform supports correct vaccine administration & efficient vaccination campaigns. Vxnaid™ is composed of three pillars.

Pillar 1

An identification component to ensure vaccinees are correctly identified at each clinic visit. The basis for vaccination can range from a simple manual entry of a unique identifier, QR or barcode scanning from a national ID card or vaccination card, or biometrics based on iris scanning or a combination of the aforementioned options.

Pillar 2

A dashboard of reports comes with the platform that allows for almost real-time insights into the progress of the vaccination campaign in the field. Reports go from high-level aggregated data views down to health center level information. These insights also enable data driven decisions to be taken in terms of operational organization for important elements like management of stock and staffing resources. A digital registry of who has been vaccinated, when and where and with which vaccine is delivered by the platform. Specific operational reports allow for track and trace efforts to encourage those missing vaccination visits. This is feasible as the platform delivers reports with projections of when vaccinees are expected to revisit for 2nd dose visits and an indication of missed visits. Data exports can be prepared to feed this information from the platform directly to the governmental HMIS central data repository avoiding the need for separate data entry efforts.

Pillar 3

The engagement modality of the platform uses basic phone technology to reach the targeted vaccinees with SMS/WhatsApp/voice messages in the preferred local language to recall persons for their appointments. This same function can be used to share other practical information about the campaign and ensure correct information and education of the community. There is a possibility to send ad hoc messages that were not foreseen up front of the campaign design.

The vxnaid™ application itself is a stand-alone application built by J&J.

The main components of the application are:

  • Tablet Application for Operator
  • Back-end OpenMRS-based Platform Configurator for management of vaccination campaign or study set-up and event scheduling
  • Intermediate API layer
  • Iris scan system (if used), is based on Neurotechnology VeriEye technology
