Notes

  • Double check that you the Oct 1st meeting is on your calendar
  • Fill out Zoom meeting for 2021 meetings by Sept 29th
  • PMIx V4 update
    • In "last rough draft" phase. Taking proofreadings, comments, and feedback from people
    • Fairly major reorganization of the document, not many major content updates
    • Hoping to have the standard done by the end of the month, then need to hold to make sure implementation in OpenPMIx is possible. Shooting for end of September
    • Plan is to rebase the open V5 PRs onto the V4 release candidate when that comes out (in the next few weeks). That way the working groups can work in parallel with the V4 implementation in OpenPMIx.
    • Rough timeline:
      • Aug 20 - Target getting the rc1 committed to master
        • Ralph will send an email when this is ready
      • Aug 27 - rc review and edits - rc2 (rc2 not required)
        • Keep rolling rcs as needed
        • Holding release until OpenPMIx implementation is available ~Sept
      • Sept 03 - Deadline to have items added to the quarterly agenda
      • Sept 11 - Monthly meeting
      • Sept 17 - Final agenda for the quarterly meeting
    • Attributes have been moved to the chapters that they are most relevant.
  • Working Group Updates
    • Slices (Stephen)
      • Working on new use case - MPI Sessions
      • New PR posted (URL) Swaroop
      • Revisited hybrid programming PR (URL) - Stephen
      • Next todo - looking into new v4 updates to spec and see how this impacts user-case pieces, e.g., Tools chapter so no need for use-case entry
      • Working on "code snippet" pieces to see how to have compile checks to verify the examples
        • OpenMP has whole repo for examples for this, and annotation in file for disposition of the test (should compile, should fail, etc.) and then can use CI to check their tests
        • Still need to look into the LaTeX pieces to see how to pull bits for that
        • MPI forum has something similar - in same standards repo, and have LaTeX wizardry for testing/including those bits
    • Storage (Shane)
      • Spoke about the attribute feedback provided during the quarterly meeting
      • Splitting storage type attribute up into "node local", “site wide”, etc
      • Working on OpenPMIx pieces for proof-of-concept, after PRs posted will work on new attributes/qualifiers for standard doc
      • Should be on target for next quarterly
      • Ralph: Shane take a look at PR #265
    • Dynamic Workflows
      • Jai has conflict, Josh update
      • Previously got presentation from Robert Clay (SNL) on their workflow system
      • Jai gave presentation on integration/plans for using PMIx with mOS at Intel for configurable/dynamic usage
      • Collaborations are forming around Workflow management teams and the teams are starting to look into using dynamic APIs of PMIx to implement things they’re doing
    • IAD (Dave)
      • Past couple of weeks syncing up with Ralph on his changes in V4 and how they will impact the WGs proposed change
      • Had Ch2 feedback that they will be returning to to prepare for the next quarterly meeting
      • Returning to Ch 5 now that it has been split up
  • Discussions
    • Deprecations
      • Josh/Ralph: Looking into how to deal with deprecated aspects from v3 when moving into v4 of spec. At moment, not removed v3-deprecated bits from v4 of doc.
      • In new v4, there is a section with the deprecated items in the revision history section of the document. This is the list of items that would be under consideration for whether the v3-deprecated should be removed from v4.
    • v3.2 Standard item
      • There is an open PR for v3.2 change log. Ralph and Josh will loop back around and finish that up after v4. Relatively minor item.
    • Governance
      • (see Kathyrn slide)
      • Timeline clarification ("fuzzification") -- try to clarify what is meant for ASC quarterly meetings in Governance doc
      • "Revision Exception" vote -- clarify changes after text has been read, analogous to the MPI “No No” vote (noone says “no” to the revisions since last read, then can amend/include and just continue with reading, only re-reading those changes). Terrible name to be avoided here.
